AASLD is now accepting proposals for the next Emerging Topic Conference in September 2020.

Emerging Topic Conferences (ETC) are one and one-half day conferences that focus on established topics with new developments, rapidly evolving topics, or topics that are relatively new to hepatology that are important to the membership, organization and discipline. The focus may also be on a timely and relevant topic in hepatology on the established science and/or clinical practice. The ETC may be basic, clinical, or translational in nature or a combination of the above.


  • The deadline to submit a proposal is Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:59 pm ET.

Submission Cycles

  • March 1 – May 15
  • September 1 – November 15

Program Format


  • Any SIG or AASLD Committee may submit a proposal
  • More than one SIG or AASLD Committee may work together to submit a joint proposal
  • Proposals should include a completed Program Agenda
  • The program may be basic, clinical, and/or translational in focus.

Scoring Criteria

All proposals will be reviewed and scored by the Clinical and Basic Research Committees based on the criteria listed below.

  • Degree to which proposed program meets AASLD’s Mission and Goals
  • Degree to which proposed program is timely and relevant
  • Degree to which proposed program addresses critical gaps in knowledge and/or performance
